2011-12-05r8169: fix Rx index race between FIFO overflow recovery and NAPI handler.françois romieu
Since 92fc43b4159b518f5baae57301f26d770b0834c9, rtl8169_tx_timeout ends up resetting Rx and Tx indexes and thus racing with the NAPI handler via -> rtl8169_hw_reset -> rtl_hw_reset -> rtl8169_init_ring_indexes What about returning to the original state ? rtl_hw_reset is only used by rtl8169_hw_reset and rtl8169_init_one. The latter does not need rtl8169_init_ring_indexes because the indexes still contain their original values from the newly allocated network device private data area (i.e. 0). rtl8169_hw_reset is used by: 1. rtl8169_down Helper for rtl8169_close. rtl8169_open explicitely inits the indexes anyway. 2. rtl8169_pcierr_interrupt Indexes are set by rtl8169_reinit_task. 3. rtl8169_interrupt rtl8169_hw_reset is needed when the device goes down. See 1. 4. rtl_shutdown System shutdown handler. Indexes are irrelevant. 5. rtl8169_reset_task Indexes must be set before rtl_hw_start is called. 6. rtl8169_tx_timeout Indexes should not be set. This is the job of rtl8169_reset_task anyway. The removal of rtl8169_hw_reset in rtl8169_tx_timeout and its move in rtl8169_reset_task do not change the analysis. 2011-12-05r8169: Rx FIFO overflow fixes.françois romieu
Realtek has specified that the post 8168c gigabit chips and the post 8105e fast ethernet chips recover automatically from a Rx FIFO overflow. The driver does not need to clear the RxFIFOOver bit of IntrStatus and it should rather avoid messing it. The implementation deserves some explanation: 1. events outside of the intr_event bit mask are now ignored. It enforces a no-processing policy for the events that either should not be there or should be ignored. 2. RxFIFOOver was already ignored in rtl_cfg_infos[RTL_CFG_1] for the whole 8168 line of chips with two exceptions: - RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_22 since b5ba6d12bdac21bc0620a5089e0f24e362645efd ("use RxFIFO overflow workaround for 8168c chipset."). This one should now be correctly handled. - RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_11 (8168b) which requires a different Rx FIFO overflow processing. Though it does not conform to Realtek suggestion above, the updated driver includes no change for RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_12 and RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_17. Both are 8168b. RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_12 is common and a bit old so I'd rather wait for experimental evidence that the change suggested by Realtek really helps or does not hurt in unexpected ways. Removed case statements in rtl8169_interrupt are only 8168 relevant. 3. RxFIFOOver is masked for post 8105e 810x chips, namely the sole 8105e (RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_30) itself. 2011-12-05ipv4: Fix peer validation on cached lookup.David S. Miller
If ipv4_valdiate_peer() fails during a cached entry lookup, we'll NULL derer since the loop iterator assumes rth is not NULL. Letting this be handled as a failure is just bogus, so just make it not fail. If we have trouble getting a non-NULL neighbour for the redirected gateway, just restore the original gateway and continue. The very next use of this cached route will try again. 2011-12-02iwlagn: fix HW crypto for TX-only keysJohannes Berg
Group keys in IBSS or AP mode are not programmed into the device since we give the key to it with every TX packet. However, we do need mac80211 to create the MMIC & PN in all cases. Move the code around to set the key flags all the time. We set them even when the key is removed again but that is obviously harmless. 2011-12-01ocfs2: avoid unaligned access to dqc_bitmapAkinobu Mita
The dqc_bitmap field of struct ocfs2_local_disk_chunk is 32-bit aligned, but not 64-bit aligned. The dqc_bitmap is accessed by ocfs2_set_bit(), ocfs2_clear_bit(), ocfs2_test_bit(), or ocfs2_find_next_zero_bit(). These are wrapper macros for ext2_*_bit() which need to take an unsigned long aligned address (though some architectures are able to handle unaligned address correctly) So some 64bit architectures may not be able to access the dqc_bitmap correctly. This avoids such unaligned access by using another wrapper functions for ext2_*_bit(). The code is taken from fs/ext4/mballoc.c which also need to handle unaligned bitmap access. 2011-12-01bridge: master device stuck in no-carrier state forever when in user-stp modeVitalii Demianets
When in user-stp mode, bridge master do not follow state of its slaves, so after the following sequence of events it can stuck forever in no-carrier state: 1) turn stp off 2) put all slaves down - master device will follow their state and also go in no-carrier state 3) turn stp on with bridge-stp script returning 0 (go to the user-stp mode) Now bridge master won't follow slaves' state and will never reach running state. This patch solves the problem by making user-stp and kernel-stp behavior similar regarding master following slaves' states. Commit 4a54c8c16 introduced raid-repair, killing the individual readpage_io_failed_hook entries from inode.c and disk-io.c. Commit 4bb31e92 introduced new readahead code, adding a readpage_io_failed_hook to disk-io.c. The raid-repair commit had logic to disable raid-repair, if readpage_io_failed_hook is set. Thus, the readahead commit effectively disabled raid-repair for meta data. This commit changes the logic to always attempt raid-repair when needed and call the readpage_io_failed_hook in case raid-repair fails. This is much more straight forward and should have been like that from the beginning. Since commit a4a710c4a7490587 (pkt_sched: Change PSCHED_SHIFT from 10 to 6) it seems RED/GRED are broken. red_calc_qavg_from_idle_time() computes a delay in us units, but this delay is now 16 times bigger than real delay, so the final qavg result smaller than expected. The SWP instruction is deprecated on ARMv6 and with ARMv7 it will be UNDEFINED when CONFIG_SWP_EMULATE is selected. In this case, probing a SWP instruction will cause an oops when the kprobes emulation code executes an undefined instruction. As the SWP instruction should be rare or non-existent in kernels for ARMv6 and later, we can simply avoid these problems by not allowing probing of these. There is a kprobes testcase for the instruction "strd r2, [r3], r4". This has unpredictable behaviour as it uses r3 for register writeback addressing and also stores it to memory. On a cortex A9, this testcase would fail because the instruction writes the updated value of r3 to memory, whereas the kprobes emulation code writes the original value. Fix this by changing testcase to used r5 instead of r3. Johannes' patch for "cfg80211: fix regulatory NULL dereference" broke user regulaotry hints and it did not address the fact that last_request was left populated even if the previous regulatory hint was stale due to the wiphy disappearing. Fix user reguluatory hints by only bailing out if for those regulatory hints where a request_wiphy is expected. The stale last_request considerations are addressed through the previous fixes on last_request where we reset the last_request to a static world regdom request upon reset_regdomains(). There is a theoretical race that if hit will trigger a crash. The race is between when we issue the first regulatory hint, regulatory_hint_core(), gets processed by the workqueue and between when the first device gets registered to the wireless core. This is not easy to reproduce but it was easy to do so through the regulatory simulator I have been working on. This is a port of the fix I implemented there [1]. We test whether a block group has enough free space to hold the requested block, but when we're doing clustered allocation, we can save some cycles by testing whether it has enough room for the cluster upfront, otherwise we end up attempting to set up a cluster and failing. Only in the NO_EMPTY_SIZE loop do we attempt an unclustered allocation, and by then we'll have zeroed the cluster size, so this patch won't stop us from using the block group as a last resort. We end up retaining a larger value than appropriate for highly-fragmented clusters, which may cause pointless searches for large contiguous groups, and even cause clusters that do not meet the density requirements to be set up. 2011-11-30Btrfs: initialize new bitmaps' listAlexandre Oliva
We're failing to create clusters with bitmaps because setup_cluster_no_bitmap checks that the list is empty before inserting the bitmap entry in the list for setup_cluster_bitmap, but the list field is only initialized when it is restored from the on-disk free space cache, or when it is written out to disk. Besides a potential race condition due to the multiple use of the list field, filesystem performance severely degrades over time: as we use up all non-bitmap free extents, the try-to-set-up-cluster dance is done at every metadata block allocation. For every block group, we fail to set up a cluster, and after failing on them all up to twice, we fall back to the much slower unclustered allocation. To make matters worse, before the unclustered allocation, we try to create new block groups until we reach the 1% threshold, which introduces additional bitmaps and thus block groups that we'll iterate over at each metadata block request.
