commit 968339fad422a58312f67718691b717dac45c399 upstream. .globl sets the symbol binding to STB_GLOBAL while .weak sets the binding to STB_WEAK. 2020-01-04libfdt: define INT32_MAX and UINT32_MAX in libfdt_env.hMasahiro Yamada
[ Upstream commit a8de1304b7df30e3a14f2a8b9709bb4ff31a0385 ] The DTC v1.5.1 added references to (U)INT32_MAX. This is no problem for user-space programs since <stdint.h> defines (U)INT32_MAX along with (u)int32_t. For the kernel space, libfdt_env.h needs to be adjusted before we pull in the changes. In the kernel, we usually use s/u32 instead of (u)int32_t for the fixed-width types. Accordingly, we already have S/U32_MAX for their max values. So, we should not add (U)INT32_MAX to <linux/limits.h> any more. Instead, add them to the in-kernel libfdt_env.h to compile the latest libfdt. 2019-12-05powerpc/44x/bamboo: Fix PCI rangeBenjamin Herrenschmidt
[ Upstream commit 3cfb9ebe906b51f2942b1e251009bb251efd2ba6 ] The bamboo dts has a bug: it uses a non-naturally aligned range for PCI memory space. This isnt' supported by the code, thus causing PCI to break on this system. This is due to the fact that while the chip memory map has 1G reserved for PCI memory, it's only 512M aligned. The code doesn't know how to split that into 2 different PMMs and fails, so limit the region to 512M. 2019-11-16powerpc/boot: Request no dynamic linker for boot wrapperNicholas Piggin
commit ff45000fcb56b5b0f1a14a865d3541746d838a0a upstream. The boot wrapper performs its own relocations and does not require PT_INTERP segment. However currently we don't tell the linker that. Prior to binutils 2.28 that works OK. But since binutils commit 1a9ccd70f9a7 ("Fix the linker so that it will not silently generate ELF binaries with invalid program headers. Fix readelf to report such invalid binaries.") binutils tries to create a program header segment due to PT_INTERP, and the link fails because there is no space for it: ld: arch/powerpc/boot/zImage.pseries: Not enough room for program headers, try linking with -N ld: final link failed: Bad value So tell the linker not to do that, by passing --no-dynamic-linker. 2019-01-13powerpc: Fix COFF zImage booting on old powermacsPaul Mackerras
[ Upstream commit 5564597d51c8ff5b88d95c76255e18b13b760879 ] Commit 6975a783d7b4 ("powerpc/boot: Allow building the zImage wrapper as a relocatable ET_DYN", 2011-04-12) changed the procedure descriptor at the start of crt0.S to have a hard-coded start address of 0x500000 rather than a reference to _zimage_start, presumably because having a reference to a symbol introduced a relocation which is awkward to handle in a position-independent executable. Unfortunately, what is at 0x500000 in the COFF image is not the first instruction, but the procedure descriptor itself, that is, a word containing 0x500000, which is not a valid instruction. Hence, booting a COFF zImage results in a "DEFAULT CATCH!, code=FFF00700" message from Open Firmware. This fixes the problem by (a) putting the procedure descriptor in the data section and (b) adding a branch to _zimage_start as the first instruction in the program. 2018-11-21powerpc/boot: Ensure _zimage_start is a weak symbolJoel Stanley
[ Upstream commit ee9d21b3b3583712029a0db65a4b7c081d08d3b3 ] When building with clang crt0's _zimage_start is not marked weak, which breaks the build when linking the kernel image: $ objdump -t arch/powerpc/boot/crt0.o |grep _zimage_start$ 0000000000000058 g .text 0000000000000000 _zimage_start ld: arch/powerpc/boot/wrapper.a(crt0.o): in function '_zimage_start': (.text+0x58): multiple definition of '_zimage_start'; arch/powerpc/boot/pseries-head.o:(.text+0x0): first defined here Clang requires the .weak directive to appear after the symbol is declared. The binutils manual says: This directive sets the weak attribute on the comma separated list of symbol names. If the symbols do not already exist, they will be created. So it appears this is different with clang. The only reference I could see for this was an OpenBSD mailing list post[1]. Changing it to be after the declaration fixes building with Clang, and still works with GCC. $ objdump -t arch/powerpc/boot/crt0.o |grep _zimage_start$ 0000000000000058 w .text 0000000000000000 _zimage_start Reported to clang as https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38921 [1] https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/fa.openbsd.tech/PAgKKen2YCY Signed-off-by: Joel Stanley <joel@jms.id.au> Reviewed-by: Nick Desaulniers <ndesaulniers@google.com> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <sashal@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

2017-03-26powerpc/boot: Fix zImage TOC alignmentMichael Ellerman
commit 97ee351b50a49717543533cfb85b4bf9d88c9680 upstream. Recent toolchains force the TOC to be 256 byte aligned. We need to enforce this alignment in the zImage linker script, otherwise pointers to our TOC variables (__toc_start) could be incorrect. If the actual start of the TOC and __toc_start don't have the same value we crash early in the zImage wrapper. 2015-12-09powerpc/sbc8641: drop bogus PHY IRQ entries from DTS filePaul Gortmaker
This file was originally cloned off of the MPC8641D-HPCN reference platform, which actually had a PHY IRQ line connected. However this board does not. The bogus entry was largely inert and went undetected until commit 321beec5047af83db90c88114b7e664b156f49fe ("net: phy: Use interrupts when available in NOLINK state") was added to the tree. With the above commit, the board fails to NFS boot since it sits waiting for a PHY IRQ event that of course never arrives. Removing the bogus entries from the DTS file fixes the issue. This board uses a P5020 chip, and boots just fine using the corenet_generic code. The device tree is very similar to the P5020DS, except that there is no Flash memory. The environment is, instead, stored on an MMC card on the motherboard. 2015-10-16powerpc/dts: don't fall back to fsl,pq3-gpio for fsl,mpc8572-gpioUwe Kleine-König
While the handling of fsl,pq3-gpio and fsl,mpc8572-gpio is done in the same driver and the two hardly differ, the latter controller needs a workaround for an erratum in the gpio_get callback. To make this difference more explicit remove fsl,pq3-gpio from the list of compatibles for mpc8572 machines. 2015-10-15powerpc: Delete old orphaned PrPMC 280/2800 DTS and boot file.Paul Gortmaker
In commit 3c8464a9b12bf83807b6e2c896d7e7b633e1cae7 ("powerpc: Delete old PrPMC 280/2800 support") we got rid of most of the C code, and the Makefile/Kconfig hooks, but it seems I left the platform's DTS file orphaned in the tree as well as the boot code. Here we get rid of them both. 2015-08-17powerpc: Add a vga alias node for P1022Jason Jin
In u-boot, when set the video as console, the name 'vga' is used as a general name for the video device, during the fdt_fixup_stdout process, the 'vga' name is used to search in the dtb to setup the 'linux,stdout-path' node. Though the P1022 DIU is not VGA-compatible device, to meet the 'vga' name used in u-boot, the vga alias node is added for P1022 in this patch. At the same time, a display alias is also added so that no other components grow dependencies on the vga alias node.
