[ Upstream commit b751c52bb587ae66f773b15204ef7a147467f4c7 ] The current default value (400) is too low on many systems (e.g. some ARM64 platform takes up 1000+ entries). syzbot uses 16000 as default value, and has proved to be enough on beefy configurations, so let's pick that value. This consumes more RAM on boot (each entry is 160 bytes, so in total ~2.5MB of RAM), but the memory would later be freed (early_log is __initdata). 2019-09-06siphash: implement HalfSipHash1-3 for hash tablesJason A. Donenfeld
commit 1ae2324f732c9c4e2fa4ebd885fa1001b70d52e1 upstream. HalfSipHash, or hsiphash, is a shortened version of SipHash, which generates 32-bit outputs using a weaker 64-bit key. It has *much* lower security margins, and shouldn't be used for anything too sensitive, but it could be used as a hashtable key function replacement, if the output is never exposed, and if the security requirement is not too high. The goal is to make this something that performance-critical jhash users would be willing to use. 2019-09-06siphash: add cryptographically secure PRFJason A. Donenfeld
commit 2c956a60778cbb6a27e0c7a8a52a91378c90e1d1 upstream. SipHash is a 64-bit keyed hash function that is actually a cryptographically secure PRF, like HMAC. Except SipHash is super fast, and is meant to be used as a hashtable keyed lookup function, or as a general PRF for short input use cases, such as sequence numbers or RNG chaining. For the first usage: There are a variety of attacks known as "hashtable poisoning" in which an attacker forms some data such that the hash of that data will be the same, and then preceeds to fill up all entries of a hashbucket. This is a realistic and well-known denial-of-service vector. Currently hashtables use jhash, which is fast but not secure, and some kind of rotating key scheme (or none at all, which isn't good). SipHash is meant as a replacement for jhash in these cases. There are a modicum of places in the kernel that are vulnerable to hashtable poisoning attacks, either via userspace vectors or network vectors, and there's not a reliable mechanism inside the kernel at the moment to fix it. The first step toward fixing these issues is actually getting a secure primitive into the kernel for developers to use. Then we can, bit by bit, port things over to it as deemed appropriate. While SipHash is extremely fast for a cryptographically secure function, it is likely a bit slower than the insecure jhash, and so replacements will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis based on whether or not the difference in speed is negligible and whether or not the current jhash usage poses a real security risk. For the second usage: A few places in the kernel are using MD5 or SHA1 for creating secure sequence numbers, syn cookies, port numbers, or fast random numbers. SipHash is a faster and more fitting, and more secure replacement for MD5 in those situations. Replacing MD5 and SHA1 with SipHash for these uses is obvious and straight-forward, and so is submitted along with this patch series. There shouldn't be much of a debate over its efficacy. Dozens of languages are already using this internally for their hash tables and PRFs. Some of the BSDs already use this in their kernels. SipHash is a widely known high-speed solution to a widely known set of problems, and it's time we catch-up. Signed-off-by: Jason A. 2019-08-04lib/scatterlist: Fix mapping iterator when sg->offset is greater than PAGE_SIZEChristophe Leroy
commit aeb87246537a83c2aff482f3f34a2e0991e02cbc upstream. All mapping iterator logic is based on the assumption that sg->offset is always lower than PAGE_SIZE. But there are situations where sg->offset is such that the SG item is on the second page. In that case sg_copy_to_buffer() fails properly copying the data into the buffer. One of the reason is that the data will be outside the kmapped area used to access that data. This patch fixes the issue by adjusting the mapping iterator offset and pgoffset fields such that offset is always lower than PAGE_SIZE. When decoding with erasures, Lambda (the error and erasure locator polynomial) is initialized from the given erasure positions. The pad parameter is not accounted for by the initialisation code, and hence Lambda is initialized from incorrect erasure positions. The fix is to adjust the erasure positions by the supplied pad. [ Upstream commit 5f074f3e192f10c9fade898b9b3b8812e3d83342 ] A recent optimization in Clang (r355672) lowers comparisons of the return value of memcmp against zero to comparisons of the return value of bcmp against zero. This helps some platforms that implement bcmp more efficiently than memcmp. glibc simply aliases bcmp to memcmp, but an optimized implementation is in the works. This results in linkage failures for all targets with Clang due to the undefined symbol. For now, just implement bcmp as a tailcail to memcmp to unbreak the build. This routine can be further optimized in the future. Other ideas discussed: * A weak alias was discussed, but breaks for architectures that define their own implementations of memcmp since aliases to declarations are not permitted (only definitions). Arch-specific memcmp implementations typically declare memcmp in C headers, but implement them in assembly. * -ffreestanding also is used sporadically throughout the kernel. * -fno-builtin-bcmp doesn't work when doing LTO. Which is the interesting case when we're going to do cumulative distribution functions on idle times, which we assume to be a random variable, where the target residency of the deepest idle state gives an upper bound on the variable (5e6ns on recent Intel chips). In the case of small @x, the compute loop: while (m != 0) { b = y + m; y >>= 1; if (x >= b) { x -= b; y += m; } m >>= 2; } can be reduced to: while (m > x) m >>= 2; Because y==0, b==m and until x>=m y will remain 0. The problem is that the code that blanks off the unused bits of the shortcut value malfunctions if the number of bits in the last word equals machine word size. This is due to the "<<" operator being given a shift of zero in this case, and so the mask that should be all zeros is all ones instead. This causes the subsequent masking operation to clear everything rather than clearing nothing. Ordinarily, the presence of the hash at the beginning of the tree index key makes the issue very hard to test for, but in this case, it was encountered due to a development mistake that caused the hash output to be either 0 (keyring) or 1 (non-keyring) only. This made it susceptible to the keyctl/unlink/valid test in the keyutils package. The fix is simply to skip the blanking if the shift would be 0. For example, an index key that is 64 bits long would produce a 0 shift and thus a 'blank' of all 1s. This is particularly dangerous if the buffer is on the stack. But that seems likely to be forgotten and lead to bugs. Instead we can change seq_buf_puts() to always leave the buffer in a null-terminated state. In case the object is successfully inserted, NULL is returned. Otherwise, you get an error via ERR_PTR(). This patch adapts the existing callers of __rhashtable_insert_fast() so they handle this new logic, and it adds a new rhashtable_lookup_get_insert_key() interface to fetch this existing object. nf_tables needs this change to improve handling of EEXIST cases via honoring the NLM_F_EXCL flag and by checking if the data part of the mapping matches what we have. 2018-11-21locking/lockdep: Fix debug_locks off performance problemWaiman Long
[ Upstream commit 9506a7425b094d2f1d9c877ed5a78f416669269b ] It was found that when debug_locks was turned off because of a problem found by the lockdep code, the system performance could drop quite significantly when the lock_stat code was also configured into the kernel. For instance, parallel kernel build time on a 4-socket x86-64 server nearly doubled. Further analysis into the cause of the slowdown traced back to the frequent call to debug_locks_off() from the __lock_acquired() function probably due to some inconsistent lockdep states with debug_locks off. The debug_locks_off() function did an unconditional atomic xchg to write a 0 value into debug_locks which had already been set to 0. This led to severe cacheline contention in the cacheline that held debug_locks. As debug_locks is being referenced in quite a few different places in the kernel, this greatly slow down the system performance. To prevent that trashing of debug_locks cacheline, lock_acquired() and lock_contended() now checks the state of debug_locks before proceeding. The debug_locks_off() function is also modified to check debug_locks before calling __debug_locks_off(). It turned out that the issue was due to the object in concern being on a different stack which was due to another issue. Thomas suggested to print the pointers and the location of the stack for the currently running task. This helped to figure out that the object was on the wrong stack. As this is general useful information for debugging similar issues, make the error message more informative by printing the pointers. 2018-08-17ioremap: Update pgtable free interfaces with addrChintan Pandya

The following kernel panic was observed on ARM64 platform due to a stale TLB entry. 1. ioremap with 4K size, a valid pte page table is set. 2. iounmap it, its pte entry is set to 0. 3. ioremap the same address with 2M size, update its pmd entry with a new value. 4. CPU may hit an exception because the old pmd entry is still in TLB, which leads to a kernel panic. Commit b6bdb7517c3d ("mm/vmalloc: add interfaces to free unmapped page table") has addressed this panic by falling to pte mappings in the above case on ARM64. To support pmd mappings in all cases, TLB purge needs to be performed in this case on ARM64. Add a new arg, 'addr', to pud_free_pmd_page() and pmd_free_pte_page() so that TLB purge can be added later in seprate patches. So remove that include. processor.h is a nasty header that includes lots of other headers and makes it prone to include loops. Removing the include here makes asm/atomic.h a "leaf" header that can be safely included in most other headers. The only fallout is in the lib/atomic tester which relied on this implicit include. Give it an explicit include. commit f5967101e9de12addcda4510dfbac66d7c5779c3 upstream. People complained about ARCH_HWEIGHT_CFLAGS and how it throws a wrench into kcov, lto, etc, experimentations. Add asm versions for __sw_hweight{32,64}() and do explicit saving and restoring of clobbered registers. This gets rid of the special calling convention. We get to call those functions on !X86_FEATURE_POPCNT CPUs. We still need to hardcode POPCNT and register operands as some old gas versions which we support, do not know about POPCNT. 2018-03-28mm/vmalloc: add interfaces to free unmapped page tableToshi Kani
commit b6bdb7517c3d3f41f20e5c2948d6bc3f8897394e upstream. On architectures with CONFIG_HAVE_ARCH_HUGE_VMAP set, ioremap() may create pud/pmd mappings. A kernel panic was observed on arm64 systems with Cortex-A75 in the following steps as described by Hanjun Guo. 1. ioremap a 4K size, valid page table will build, 2. iounmap it, pte0 will set to 0; 3. ioremap the same address with 2M size, pgd/pmd is unchanged, then set the a new value for pmd; 4. pte0 is leaked; 5. CPU may meet exception because the old pmd is still in TLB, which will lead to kernel panic. This panic is not reproducible on x86. INVLPG, called from iounmap, purges all levels of entries associated with purged address on x86. x86 still has memory leak. The patch changes the ioremap path to free unmapped page table(s) since doing so in the unmap path has the following issues: - The iounmap() path is shared with vunmap(). Since vmap() only supports pte mappings, making vunmap() to free a pte page is an overhead for regular vmap users as they do not need a pte page freed up. - Checking if all entries in a pte page are cleared in the unmap path is racy, and serializing this check is expensive. - The unmap path calls free_vmap_area_noflush() to do lazy TLB purges. Clearing a pud/pmd entry before the lazy TLB purges needs extra TLB purge. Add two interfaces, pud_free_pmd_page() and pmd_free_pte_page(), which clear a given pud/pmd entry and free up a page for the lower level entries. This patch implements their stub functions on x86 and arm64, which work as workaround. 2018-03-03lib/mpi: Fix umul_ppmm() for MIPS64r6James Hogan
[ Upstream commit bbc25bee37d2b32cf3a1fab9195b6da3a185614a ] Current MIPS64r6 toolchains aren't able to generate efficient DMULU/DMUHU based code for the C implementation of umul_ppmm(), which performs an unsigned 64 x 64 bit multiply and returns the upper and lower 64-bit halves of the 128-bit result. Instead it widens the 64-bit inputs to 128-bits and emits a __multi3 intrinsic call to perform a 128 x 128 multiply. This is both inefficient, and it results in a link error since we don't include __multi3 in MIPS linux. For example commit 90a53e4432b1 ("cfg80211: implement regdb signature checking") merged in v4.15-rc1 recently broke the 64r6_defconfig and 64r6el_defconfig builds by indirectly selecting MPILIB. An earlier version of this patch also prevented combining KASAN_EXTRA with KASAN_INLINE, but that is no longer necessary with gcc-7.0.1. All patches to get the frame size below 2048 bytes with CONFIG_KASAN=y and CONFIG_KASAN_EXTRA=n have been merged by maintainers now, so we can bring back that default now. KASAN_EXTRA=y still causes lots of warnings but now defaults to !COMPILE_TEST to disable it in allmodconfig, and it remains disabled in all other defconfigs since it is a new option. I arbitrarily raise the warning limit for KASAN_EXTRA to 3072 to reduce the noise, but an allmodconfig kernel still has around 50 warnings on gcc-7. I experimented a bit more with smaller stack frames and have another follow-up series that reduces the warning limit for 64-bit architectures to 1280 bytes (without CONFIG_KASAN). With earlier versions of this patch series, I also had patches to address the warnings we get with KASAN and/or KASAN_EXTRA, using a "noinline_if_stackbloat" annotation. That annotation now got replaced with a gcc-8 bugfix (see https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=81715) and a workaround for older compilers, which means that KASAN_EXTRA is now just as bad as before and will lead to an instant stack overflow in a few extreme cases. This reverts parts of commit 3f181b4d8652 ("lib/Kconfig.debug: disable -Wframe-larger-than warnings with KASAN=y"). Two patches in linux-next should be merged first to avoid introducing warnings in an allmodconfig build: 3cd890dbe2a4 ("media: dvb-frontends: fix i2c access helpers for KASAN") 16c3ada89cff ("media: r820t: fix r820t_write_reg for KASAN") Do we really need to backport this? I think we do: without this patch, enabling KASAN will lead to unavoidable kernel stack overflow in certain device drivers when built with gcc-7 or higher on linux-4.10+ or any version that contains a backport of commit c5caf21ab0cf8. Most people are probably still on older compilers, but it will get worse over time as they upgrade their distros. The warnings we get on kernels older than this should all be for code that uses dangerously large stack frames, though most of them do not cause an actual stack overflow by themselves.The asan-stack option was added in linux-4.0, and commit 3f181b4d8652 ("lib/Kconfig.debug: disable -Wframe-larger-than warnings with KASAN=y") effectively turned off the warning for allmodconfig kernels, so I would like to see this fix backported to any kernels later than 4.0. I have done dozens of fixes for individual functions with stack frames larger than 2048 bytes with asan-stack, and I plan to make sure that all those fixes make it into the stable kernels as well (most are already there). Part of the complication here is that asan-stack (from 4.0) was originally assumed to always require much larger stacks, but that turned out to be a combination of multiple gcc bugs that we have now worked around and fixed, but sanitize-address-use-after-scope (from v4.10) has a much higher inherent stack usage and also suffers from at least three other problems that we have analyzed but not yet fixed upstream, each of them makes the stack usage more severe than it should be. A quote from goolge project zero blog: "At this point, it would normally be necessary to locate gadgets in the host kernel code that can be used to actually leak data by reading from an attacker-controlled location, shifting and masking the result appropriately and then using the result of that as offset to an attacker-controlled address for a load. But piecing gadgets together and figuring out which ones work in a speculation context seems annoying. So instead, we decided to use the eBPF interpreter, which is built into the host kernel - while there is no legitimate way to invoke it from inside a VM, the presence of the code in the host kernel's text section is sufficient to make it usable for the attack, just like with ordinary ROP gadgets." To make attacker job harder introduce BPF_JIT_ALWAYS_ON config option that removes interpreter from the kernel in favor of JIT-only mode. So far eBPF JIT is supported by: x64, arm64, arm32, sparc64, s390, powerpc64, mips64 The start of JITed program is randomized and code page is marked as read-only. In addition "constant blinding" can be turned on with net.core.bpf_jit_harden v2->v3: - move __bpf_prog_ret0 under ifdef (Daniel) v1->v2: - fix init order, test_bpf and cBPF (Daniel's feedback) - fix offloaded bpf (Jakub's feedback) - add 'return 0' dummy in case something can invoke prog->bpf_func - retarget bpf tree. For bpf-next the patch would need one extra hunk. It will be sent when the trees are merged back to net-next Considered doing: int bpf_jit_enable __read_mostly = BPF_EBPF_JIT_DEFAULT; but it seems better to land the patch as-is and in bpf-next remove bpf_jit_enable global variable from all JITs, consolidate in one place and remove this jit_init() function. This is only expected to be an issue on 64 bit systems. Add the <linux/atomic.h> header to pull in atomic_long* operations. So that 32 bit systems continue to use atomic32_t but 64 bit systems can use atomic64_t. commit 81a7be2cd69b412ab6aeacfe5ebf1bb6e5bce955 upstream. asn1_ber_decoder() was ignoring errors from actions associated with the opcodes ASN1_OP_END_SEQ_ACT, ASN1_OP_END_SET_ACT, ASN1_OP_END_SEQ_OF_ACT, and ASN1_OP_END_SET_OF_ACT. In practice, this meant the pkcs7_note_signed_info() action (since that was the only user of those opcodes). Fix it by checking for the error, just like the decoder does for actions associated with the other opcodes. This bug allowed users to leak slab memory by repeatedly trying to add a specially crafted "pkcs7_test" key (requires CONFIG_PKCS7_TEST_KEY). In theory, this bug could also be used to bypass module signature verification, by providing a PKCS#7 message that is misparsed such that a signature's ->authattrs do not contain its ->msgdigest. But it doesn't seem practical in normal cases, due to restrictions on the format of the ->authattrs. 2017-12-16ASN.1: fix out-of-bounds read when parsing indefinite length itemEric Biggers

In asn1_ber_decoder(), indefinitely-sized ASN.1 items were being passed to the action functions before their lengths had been computed, using the bogus length of 0x80 (ASN1_INDEFINITE_LENGTH). This resulted in reading data past the end of the input buffer, when given a specially crafted message. Fix it by rearranging the code so that the indefinite length is resolved before the action is called. This bug was originally found by fuzzing the X.509 parser in userspace using libFuzzer from the LLVM project. 2017-11-30lib/mpi: call cond_resched() from mpi_powm() loopEric Biggers
commit 1d9ddde12e3c9bab7f3d3484eb9446315e3571ca upstream. On a non-preemptible kernel, if KEYCTL_DH_COMPUTE is called with the largest permitted inputs (16384 bits), the kernel spends 10+ seconds doing modular exponentiation in mpi_powm() without rescheduling. If all threads do it, it locks up the system. Moreover, it can cause rcu_sched-stall warnings. Notwithstanding the insanity of doing this calculation in kernel mode rather than in userspace, fix it by calling cond_resched() as each bit from the exponent is processed. It's still noninterruptible, but at least it's preemptible now. Do the cond_resched() once per bit rather than once per MPI limb because each limb might still easily take 100+ milliseconds on slow CPUs.
